The best definition of self care I've ever heard is:
Keeping good on promises you make to yourself.
In my experience, that usually involves a lot of things I don’t always feel like doing:
- Lifting weights 3-5 days a week
- Practicing writing every morning
- Reading challenging pieces of writing
- Going to psychoanalysis every Tuesday
- Scrolling LinkedIn to stay up on everything
Tons more examples.
The more I think about this, the more it’s clear that all self-help and productivity advice boils down to one thing:
Doing the things you say you want to do, in the moments you least feel like doing them.
